President Donald Trump's Oval Office press conference on Monday descended into chaos when the president blew up at CNN reporter Kristen Holmes.
"You're a loud, boisterous person," said Trump, shortly after bragging about his relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. "Be quiet! Be quiet! You're a fake reporter, and you report fake news."
The outburst made the rounds on social media, with many commentators laying into yet another case of the president singling out a woman reporter for annoying him, and others criticizing the White House press corps for standing by and letting it happen.
"Trump hates women who speak up against him. Total misogynist," wrote political commentator Vince Wilson.
"Trump tantrums at yet another female reporter — @KristenhCNN — then lies USS Lincoln sailors trapped on board is a 'fake' story + lies other ships were trapped longer," wrote The Tennessee Holler. "He cares about himself, not the military."
"Before I even clicked the link to watch the replay, I knew if he was scolding, it was a woman reporter," wrote author and political commentator Amy Siskind.
"OH - MY - GOD! Trump is having a MELTDOWN in the Oval Office, yelling and screaming as millions watch on live TV," wrote Call to Activism. "He SNAPPED at a CNN reporter, raging: 'QUIET! You’re a fake reporter! You report fake news!' And dismissing the USS Lincoln disaster as a CNN fake report. Damn."
Scott MacFarlane of Meidas Touch, meanwhile, took aim at the press corps: "Trump shouts down journalist ... Next set of reporters to ask Q's ... declined to take the opportunity to stand up & defend their colleague."
