Critics mock Trump as he stumbles through Roosevelt Library speech: 'This is painful'

The internet was mocking President Donald Trump as he appeared to have trouble reading the teleprompter in front of a crowd in North Dakota on Wednesday.

Trump was speaking in Medora, North Dakota, where he visited the newly completed Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. The library in the Badlands was slated to open on July 4.

Political commentators noted Trump's demeanor and behavior while the president delivered the remarks — and complained about his teleprompters.

"This is painful to watch. He's struggling to read the prompter, starts riffing off a word he recognizes, then loses his place in his riffing, trails off, and goes back to the prompter," journalist and conspiracy theory expert Mike Rothschild wrote on X.

"Just a couple minutes into his speech, Trump sounds like he is getting winded and is having trouble reading the teleprompter," journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on X.

"I have two teleprompters that aren't working, and here I stand," Acyn, senior digital editor for MeidasTouch, wrote on X.

"Straight back to the nursing home," the political commentary account Grudgie the Whale wrote on Bluesky.

"What is he going on about?" User Vivienne, political activist and frequent commentator, wrote on Bluesky.

Trump baffles with bizarre claim he had a conversation with Teddy Roosevelt

President Donald Trump stunned the internet on Wednesday when he talked about how he chatted with long-dead former President Teddy Roosevelt.

Trump was in Medora, North Dakota, to visit the newly built Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in the Badlands before it opens on July 4. He spoke to a crowd about how he talked to the nation's 26th president, who died in 1919.

"I even had a conversation with Theodore Roosevelt. I asked how do you feel about the fact that the Democrats gave the Panama Canal away to Panama for $1," Trump said.

His comments raised eyebrows among social media users.

"If your 80yr old parent was talking about having conversations with someone who died ~27 years before they were even born, you'd be getting power-of-attorney in place," economist Sky Marchini wrote on X.

"Trump thinks he's real," the account Molly Ploofkins, a progressive political commentator, wrote on X.

"Trump is having conversations with an AI Teddy Roosevelt. Wtf is happening here?" Far-right conspiracy theorist and Rumble show host Stew Peters wrote on X.

"Headline: Elderly man with dementia talks to ghost of Teddy Roosevelt about the rising costs of canals," liberal political commentator Chris Robinson wrote on X.

"Is Theodore in the room with us now Mr Trump?" English graphic satirist Tarquin Helmet wrote on X.
