A fed-up Sen Dick Durbin (D-IL) jumped in and cut off Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) after he hectored former special prosecutor Jack Smith with a string of insults and bizarre questions Tuesday.
The final straw came when Kennedy sneered, “You make me want to throw up in mouth” at the career prosecutor.
Attempting to make it appear that Smith sought out the job to prosecute President Donald Trump, Kennedy tried to portray Smith as being disingenuous as the Republican cut off Smith’s answers.
Kennedy accused, “In fact, President Biden and/or his White House staff told [Attorney] General [Merrick] Garland to prosecute the president, didn't they?” Smith demurred with, “Again, I have no idea about that. What my job was —.”
“Do you believe in the tooth fairy?” Kennedy interrupted.
“I do not,” Smith replied.“How about the Easter Bunny?” the GOP lawmaker shot back.
“I no longer believe in the Easter Bunny,” Smith replied.
After accusing Smith of stalling in his responses, Kennedy blurted, “ You make me want to throw up in my mouth.”
Durbin jumped in with, “I'd like to say a word. This hearing is of constitutional and historic importance. This witness should be allowed to answer the questions — complete a sentence. We have given that courtesy to witnesses from both political parties. And it should be extended to Mr. Smith.”
