President Donald Trump's relationship with his close personal aide Natalie Harp has become a reliable laugh line on the Democratic campaign trail.
Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, spent much of his speech Wednesday at a town hall in Farmington Hills riffing on the 80-year-old Trump, who has called him a "communist" and said he is "full of s---," but he brought down the house with a reference to Trump's 35-year-old executive assistant, reported The Daily Beast.
"Donald Trump, because he cannot resist the red meat, cannot seem to keep my name out of his mouth," El-Sayed said, using the Arabic term of endearment "habibi" before imitating how the president draws out the last letter of his name. "Why you gotta say it like that man? It's creepy."
"You know, Natalie will show him this clip and he will be so mad," the Democrat said, and the crowd responded with 10 seconds of laughter and cheers.
Harp, derided by other aides as the "human printer," regularly appears at the president's side and often oversees his Truth Social account. Personal letters she wrote to Trump, published in full by the Daily Beast, captured the depth of her devotion to her boss.
Harp has drawn scrutiny since her 2023 letters to Trump surfaced, in which she called herself "unworthy" of him and wrote, "You are all that matters to me." She also joined Trump on a secret flight meant to evade an alleged Iranian plot against Air Force One.
El-Sayed jabbed at the pair before, too, needling Trump on X last week over comments linking him to streamer Hasan Piker: "Natalie, I think he's had a little too much iPad for the week."
The Senate candidate also used the event to blast Trump's trade war with Canada and mock Senate rival Mike Rogers, who he said would "rubber-stamp" Trump's tariffs.
"It is one thing to be an idiot," he said. "It is another entirely to know the other person is an idiot and do what they want anyway, because all you want is power."
