Former JAG officer called out for insisting Ft. Hood incident was terrorism

Former prisoner of war, Shoshana Johnson called out former JAG officer Tom Kenniff for irresponsibly suggesting that terrorism was the most likely cause of the Ft. Hood shooting Thursday.

Appearing on CNN’s Larry King Live, Kenniff said that the shooting’s probably happened “to commit acts of terror, and to instill fear on the military installation.”

“That’s crap,” responded Johnson. “Maybe the fact is that you’re a Jag officer, and you have no idea what it’s like to be in combat.”

The discussion became heated as the two questioned the other’s experience. “Maybe the fact is that you’re a Jag officer, and you have no idea what it’s like to be in combat,” said Johnson.

“I spent a year in Iraq, ma’am. Have you ever been to Iraq?” Kenniff shot back.

“I’m a POW. I got shot,” said Johnson as her temper flared.

Johnson, the first African American woman to be a prisoner of war in US history, was held prisoner in Iraq for 22 days after a gunfight in the city of Nasiriyah. She was shot and both of her legs were wounded during the firefight.

But Kenniff was undeterred. He wasn’t about to give up on pushing the idea that the Ft. Hood shooter was possibly a terrorist. “We shouldn’t rule out that this could possibly be a terrorist attack,” Kenniff told Larry King. “I mean, look at what we know. This was an act of terror in the true sense. I mean, it’s killing for the sense of killing. It’s aimed at American military personnel. It takes place on a very prominent American military base.”

“The first thing everybody is thinking, or should be thinking is that this was an act of terror,” said Kenniff.

Fox host suggests ’special screenings’ for Muslims in military

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade wants to know if it’s time to make all Muslims in the military pay for the crimes of the Ft. Hood shooting suspect. “Do you think it’s time for the military to have special debriefings of Muslim Army officers — anybody enlisted? Because if I’m going to deployed in a foxhole, if I’m going to be sticking in an outpost I got to know the guy next to me is not going to want to kill me,” Brian Kilmeade asked Geraldo Rivera.

To his credit, Rivera rejected the idea. “Isn’t this the headline, Brian, that there are 4 or 5 million American Muslims and how scant and few and far between these horrifying incidents are?” asked Rivera.

“I want to ask this question another way,” interrupted Gretchen Carlson. “Could it be that the military — because our society, lets just face it, has become very politically correct — could it be that the military was also exercising political correctness?” asked Carlson. “Even though he had a poor performance report and even though he spoke openly about being a radical being a radical muslim and had those supposed postings online. Could it be that the military was exercising political correctness in not approaching him as seriously as they would have had he not been a Muslim?”

“Yes is the short answer,” relented Rivera. “Because the military is a government agency.”

But Peter B. Johnson wasn’t letting the idea of screenings go. “You won’t countenance special screening for Muslims will you?”

“It’s a hard step for me to take,” said Rivera. “This is an American born person.”

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann names Rush Limbaugh one of the world’s worst people for saying that an HBO special about President Barack Obama should get “anal poisoning.” In fact, notes Olbermann, Limbaugh has mentioned “anal poisoning” 13 times in the past 2 years. Limbaugh has referenced “men bending over and grabbing their ankles” 19 times. Olbermann suggests that Limbaugh could have a medical condition that lead to his fascination with that region of the body.

GOP web director: Al Qaeda has right internet strategy

In a video that recently surfaced, the Republican National Committee’s director of new media said that Al Qaeda has the right idea for using the internet to achieve success.

“Part of media is video,” Todd Herman said in an interview done while working for Microsoft. “Moving pictures and that way of telling stories has proven to be very compelling across the world, across cultures. Right? If Al Qaeda can disintermediate and go out and put video cameras in the hands of people who are sympathetic to that group, and get that stuff viewed and manipulate the media in that way, you would think that a fortune 500 company would be smart enough to know they could also do the same thing with a real positive, you know, way of communicating openly,” he said.

Gawker notes that Herman has a point “and as the modern-day GOP is moving to an increasingly extreme position, perhaps not a bad analogy.”
