Hersh: Bush has escalated the secret war inside Iran
By David EdwardsCNN’s Candy Crowley talked with Seymour Hersh about his new article in The New Yorker that says the Bush Administration has increased military operations inside Iran’s borders.
Hersh said, “Well, one of the basic points is no matter what we say about diplomacy, you know, carrot and stick, the stick is working pretty hard and the stick is working overtime. This president did escalate the secret war inside Iran. We’ve been doing stuff inside Iran since ‘05 pretty heavily, Looking at the nuclear facilities, collecting intelligence and trying to undermine the regime, et cetera, et cetera but there was a significant escalation this year.”
“They got a great deal of authorization to spend up to $400 million. That doesn’t mean he’s spent it all yet but he’s got that kind of authorization. The secret committees — anyone who saw “Charlie Wilson’s war,” — Charlie Wilson was able to generate a lot of money secretly. That’s what happens in Congress and the other major thing is we’ve sent in a special task force that operates out of Afghanistan into Iran.”
“I did notice what Ambassador Crocker said about ‘not cross-border’ and I have a lot of respect for him and I don’t want to challenge him. But the fact is were inside but not necessarily cross-border. We have teams inside Iran. These include joint special operations forces, the most elite commando units and basically they’re guys go after high-value targets around the world. They capture them or kill them so it’s a significant increase in American potential for damage inside Iran.”

Busted. Shades of Iran-Contra. If the money was voted on, there has to be a congressional record of it. If not - and the money was just handed over - that’s Iran Contra. Money CANNOT be used to fund some military endeavor(covert operations) without some congressional record. That’s exactly what brought the Iran-Contra scandal. Telling a few people in Congress is not going to cover their ass, Bush or the Democrats, and obviously Bush and the Dems wanted to keep this secret from the public - again, Iran-Contra. This is exactly how Bush I and Bush II think they can get around the consequences of the Iran-Contra scandal. Now the Democrats are involved. Stay tuned.

Now we know why GWB is sending 30,000 more national guard troops to Iraq. So they can free up the combat troops in Iraq, so they can fight in Iran? The third world war has already started, and no one told the tax payers who are paying for the war.

We share the same political viewpoint, but Hersh has done nothing but make crazy claims that did not pay off for the past few years. Why? He’s either a fool or a tool. I suspect the later… a way for the administration to threaten without saying it themselves. A third-party bluff, if you will.

Let Israel fight their own war.
Sure it will be ugly. Israel has 200+ nukes, I’m sure that poses a large deterrence to anyone.
But the Nation Building mindset of the current administration/Pentagon will destroy this country if left to continue. Either through war, or treasure.
If anyone messes with something important to the US, then we can always nuke them.
Take the Ron Paul approach, remove the 700+ military bases overseas and stop spending $700 billion on defense.

Seymour Hersh has been quite accurate even though FOX news disagrees, ignores or disavows, just about every thing he says….don’t believe in the NIE…thats okay Bush and Cheney don’t believe it either…(although everyone else does..including Robert Gates)Iran is not like Iraq..they are strongly “national” (unlike Iraq, who have a long history of fighting among the different religious factions…Kurds, Sunnis and Shia, or the Taliban and ‘Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan) there will be no “civil war” in Iran..just a concentrated effort to kick the U.S.A.’s (weakened) ass with help (as promised) from Russia (who do have nukes), and those sociopaths in the White House are doing their level best to antagonize (force)the Iranians into an attack..
