  • Charlie Rose to Karl Rove *What makes you so evil?*

    By Michael Aivaz

At the end of a byzantine question on Wednesday night’s program, PBS’ Charlie Rose asks Karl Rove, “what makes you so evil?”

“Well I can’t answer that completely,” Rove replies. “I do have a theory though about the Internet. I think the Internet grants people a pseudo-anonymity that allows them to say things that they would never say to somebody in person and never put in a letter but would feel comfortable saying as accepted political discourse on the Internet, and after awhile it becomes ingrained in accepted practice.”

“It seems to go deeper,” Rose says.

    “Beyond me,” Rove replies.

The following video is from PBS’s Charlie Rose, broadcast on November 21, 2007.

I watched an interesting documentary yesterday that stress the importance of knowing what words meant and their origins. When Rove said he was an expert on “Seaward Lateral Boundaries”, my ears perked up. I’ll be doing some research on this to find out just why Rove has made himself an “expert” in this field. Remember, it’s not what they tell you, it’s what they don’t tell you but hint at.

Rove’s theory about why people say he is evil is no doubt drawn from his own behavior. For example, he chose to out a CIA agent (Valerie Plame) anonymously and then told McClelan that he did not do it!

Now we all know full well that if Rove wants to find out what anyone said about him he can misuse the U.S. power to spy on me and anyone else. So we say things about him and anybody else because that is waht see. At least I call them as they are. Another thing, government officials should be subject to scrutiny and they should welcome our feedback.

Rove is the man who once said that he can create his own realities. In fact, create several. And while the American media and public were what Rove called “studying” those realities, he basically could move about and work his evil, diabolical inside out and backward logic in Washington behind the cloak of the previous realities he had created. But, that wouldn’t be the end of it. Once the “real” damage was done, he would then create the reality that the democrats were the perpetraters of the very crime that he himself had just committed. This is where he has earned his status of evil.

The proper question would have been: Why have you done so many evil things? List them and let him respond.

I’m not sure I understand the part about how the congress’ vote to AMF, forced them to attack Iraq too soon. I think the idea that, in the first place they(congress) were operating under false intelligence that these ‘myths’ fabricated is being put forward to shift blame to the congress. In the second, place I don’t recall the vote being presented as some sort of starting gun to send these guys on their merry mission of destruction. I know Charlie is smart enough to realize when someone is BSing him. It’s too bad he didn’t call this bloviater on it. Oh, and I for one would be more than happy to let this turd ball know exactly how I feel about him face to face, but I somehow think he would hide behind his Secret Service detail. (which ironically was provided to him and not to Valerie Plame. He’s a coward)

well, it just so happens that i’ve faxed and emailed karl a number of times during his white house tenure to tell him just exactly how clear his dedication to the forces of darkness has been to any and all who have cared to pay attention… i’ve also posted countless times to that effect on my own weblog… i’m actually somewhat surprised that someone from the government hasn’t paid me a visit… otoh, they’re probably recording every keystroke i type… needless to say, i never received a response…

karl rove should be permanently banned from any public platform and any position of public authority whatsoever… he’s poison…

Rove got off easy. When he said that perhaps the surge should have been started a year before it was, Rose didn’t note that, had the administration had any clue about rebuilding Iraq, we wouldnt’ have needed a surge in either year. Also, when Rove complained about the refusal of the Democratically controlled Congress to compromise and work with the president, Rose failed to note that, for six years of a Republican controlled Congress, the minority party was dismissed by the Republicans, sometimes with a vengeance (turning off their microphones; throwing them out of meeting rooms). What we got was a one-hour platform for Rove’s views with little challenge from Rose on the main points of contention.

    8. SteveSOD Says:

All “seaward lateral boundaries” means? The boundaries (as in, the maritime equivalent of borders) for states, for use in determine which state has jurisdiction over which part of the ocean. Rove’s a nerd.

    9. SteveSOD Says:

      * that should be “determining” instead of “determine.”

    10. Jonnan Says:

I find it fascinating that he describes *everyone* as making vulgar, profane, nasty way, and reframes the question so adroitly. It’s not that anyone has any *legitimate* criticism, it’s all the playa haters.

And the rest is how he’s accused of things without *any* evidence, when Texas journalists have said for years “Watch this - this is the pattern of what happens when Rove is running a campaign …” i.e., weird accusations, push polls, investigation coming public that were supposed to be quiet specifically because there *is* an election.

Sorry, circumstantial evidence is evidence. When the same stuff comes up time after time, it’s silly to claims it’s coincidence.

And the vote on the war?!? Now it’s *congresses* fault that GWB can’t run a military? WTF?

Rove is right about the anonymity thing. Taken in a broader context, anonymity or remoteness of an individual to the consequences of their decisions allows one to make decisions without having to personally face the results. Corporate and government officials make decisions every day that are good for their organization but bad for some of the people in the organization.
How can a CEO decide to lay off thousands of employees and sleep at night? Simple, they only have to decide, somebody else has to do the hatchet job. He will never see the anguish he has caused.
How can our President decide to start an unnecessary war? Easy, He will never have to risk his life. He will never have to see the atrocity of war. He can ignore the caskets returning from the battlefield.
This is the mind set that has gotten us here today.
