Wellington- The wife of one of the men jailed on remote
Pitcairn Island for historic sex attacks on underage girls has had a
daughter, a New Zealand newspaper reported Monday.
Adrianna Tracey Christian is only the second child born on the
tiny island in the Pacific, halfway between New Zealand and South
America, in the last 21 years, Wellington's Dominion Post reported.

Her father, Randy Christian, serving six years for four rapes and
five indecent assaults, was allowed out of the island jail to be at
the bedside of his wife, Nadine, when she gave birth on March 3, the
paper said.

Adrianna, the couple's fourth child, is a ninth-generation
descendant of Fletcher Christian, who led mutineers to take over the
British ship HMS Bounty in 1789, setting their bullying Captain
William Bligh adrift in a small boat, and went on to settle a
community on Pitcairn.

Randy Christian's father, Steve, is also in prison after trials in
which eight men - a quarter of the island's male population - were
convicted of sex offences against young island girls over a period of
nearly 40 years.

Most Pitcairn women have their babies in New Zealand because of
the difficulty of getting medical treatment on the isolated island,
which has no airstrip and can only be reached by boat.

Nadine Christian's other daughter, Emily, was born on the island
in 2003, the first Pitcairn birth since 1986.
