Munich- The Windows Vista operating system offers poor
protection against PC viruses, some experts report. Users are
therefore advised to use supplementary security software when
switching to the new Microsoft platform, recommends Munich-based
PC Professionell magazine. "Live One Care," a security programme
included with the operating system, proved particularly porous to
trojans during the magazine's testing: one in four bugs went
unrecognized by the software and were able to install themselves
unnoticed on the PC.
One in 20 PC viruses also went undiscovered by the programme,
the report continues. More than one in 10 spyware programmes also
went unremoved. Nor did the firewall offer much protection: When
running with the default settings, it blocked only four of 20
unwanted data connections from the internet. Most spy tools could
therefore spy unimpeded on personal data and forward it out onto
the internet, PC Professionell warns.
