Santiago- A transport van suffered an accident in Chile on
Friday, spewing 6 million dollars' worth of precious metals across
the road.
The vehicle tried to dodge a bus accident in a rural area 33
kilometres from Santiago and overturned, the police
said. Twenty-seven boxes, each with 200 kilogrammes of a gold-silver
alloy, fell onto the road and some of them opened on impact.
However, police arrived at the site very quickly, in time to
prevent anyone from taking the worthy load.
The armour-plated vehicle was travelling from a precious metals
mine in the Copiapo region, 800 kilometres away from Santiago.
The driver and his two companions suffered serious injuries and
had to be taken to hospital, although their lives were not at risk.
