Two people were killed and several others were wounded after a gunman opened fire at a strip mall in the western US state of Oregon, local media citing police said Tuesday.

Police in Tualatin, south of Portland, told AFP that a gunman fired several shots at a business shortly before noon (2000 GMT) local time.

Tualatin Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Massey said the gunman was not "believed to be at large" and could only confirm one fatality.

However local media citing police later reported two people had died in the incident, an unidentified man and a woman.

KGW television reported on its website that as many as 10 people had been wounded in the attack, without giving information on the extent of injuries.

The attack took place as the United States mourned after a deadly gun rampage at Fort Hood military base in Texas last week that left 13 people dead and 42 wounded.
