At least nine people have been killed in mud slides which struck northern Peru, officials said late on Monday.
Strong rains triggered the slides in the province of Retamas, around 500 kilometres (310 miles) north of the capital Lima.
"We are informed that nine people have died in mudslides, they were buried in their houses on Sunday," Walter Tapia, director of operations for the Civil Defense Institute told AFP.
