Guinea-Bissau's former prime minister Faustino Fudut Imbali was killed "by bullets" on Friday, a hospital source said the day the government denounced a foiled coup bid.
"We currently have five bodies, those of (former defence minister) Helder Proenca, (territorial administration minister) Baciro Dabo and Faustino Fudut Imbali, who has just been identified," the source said.
"The two others are one of Helder's bodyguards and his driver."
Sources close to Imbali said that soldiers were at his home early on Friday morning, but the minister was absent.
It was unclear where Imbali was killed and his name did not figure in an interior ministry statement on the plot, which accused Proenca of being the mastermind behind the foiled coup and also fingered Dabo, with two other members of the ruling party.
Guinea-Bissau has been wracked by coups and political unrest since gaining independence from Portugal in 1974.
