US videogame publisher Electronic Arts on Wednesday announced it had purchased J2MSoft Inc., a South Korean developer of online games for personal computers.
"This is a significant step in EA's strategic plan for developing and publishing online games in Asia," said Jon Niermann, president of EA Asia.
"J2M is an experienced team of developers and we can't wait to have them start creating online games based on new properties and powerful EA franchises," he added in a statement.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but EA said it does not expect the acquisition to have a material impact on its fiscal 2009 results.
EA said J2M, which was founded in 2004 and has 50 employees, develops free-to-play online games which are monetized through micro-transactions and advertising.
Its stable of online games includes RayCity, TAAN and Debut.
