| | Kissinger, top GOP senator like Clinton for Sec of State
Hillary Clinton is a popular choice for Secretary of State before she has even accepted it.
After two Democratic officials said President-elect Barack Obama made the offer to Sen. Hillary Clinton, several politicians have publicly declared their support.
The New York Senator would make "an outstanding appointment" as America's top diplomat, said former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate told a meeting in New Delhi that President-elect Obama would show "great courage" if he selected her as his Secretary of State, Voice of America reported.
He added, however, that Clinton must be subordinate to her former rival if she accepts the cabinet position and become a "symbol of a new approach."
Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ) told Fox's Chris Wallace that Sen. Clinton (D-NY) would be "a very good selection" for President-elect Barack Obama's Secretary of State.
"It seems to me she's got the experience. She's got the temperament for it. I think she would be well received around the world," said Kyl.
Although Kyl was unsure if she would be approved in a Senate vote, Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) said she would have no problem and agreed she is "a fine choice."
