Rep. Robert Wexler gave one of the most memorable interviews to Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert two years ago when he jokingly said cocaine was "a fun thing to do" and extolled the virtues of prostitutes, knowing his comments wouldn't hurt his prospects in an uncontested 2006 election.

The Florida Democrat wasn't so gullible in an interview Thursday night.

"Your district is in Boca Raton Florida ... so it is safe to say that 100 percent of your constituents are asleep by now. Let's have some fun," Colbert goaded. "Let's say some things that if they were awake would upset them, but since they're asleep there's absolutely no way it could upset them in any way.

"I'll start," the host continued. "Try this: You're so old you look like lizards."

Wexler explained that his situation had changed since his July 2006 appearance. The six-term Representative has to fend off a Democratic challenger in Florida's August primary and a Republican in November's general election.

"I think I should be out of the repeating business," said Wexler, who was promoting his book Fire Breathing Liberal.

"Really, you're not willing to repeat, 'I enjoy doing cocaine because it's a fun thing to do'?" Colbert asked. "You're not willing to say that again?"

Wexler found himself in a bit of hot water after that first appearance, and he had to assure reporters and his constituents that he was just joking. Going through all that once was enough, Wexler said Thursday.

"Once is enough?" a flabbergasted Colbert asked. "Sir, you're flip-flopping."
