Raw Story is seeking an intrepid political reporter to cover the incoming Obama Administration and the vagaries of politics in Washington. We’re looking for someone with reporting experience – political preferred -- who is fast, self-driven, independent and hot for politics and muckraking journalism.

The successful candidate will work from home and typically write one to two short-form writeups a day that synthesize current events or video reports and one longer-form exclusive report. In the past, Raw’s political reporters have had particular areas of focus and developed reportorial expertise in areas such as the US Attorney scandal or President Bush’s warrantless wiretapping program.

Preference will be given to candidates with daily reporting experience (wires, newspaper or online) who demonstrate a strong command of the craft and an obvious passion and curiosity in their work. Additional preference will be given to candidates who include in their cover letter a thoughtful description of areas they would like to cover that aren’t given enough treatment by the press.

To get a sense of what our reporters have covered in the past, see the reporting of Nick Juliano and Michael Roston.

Compensation is negotiable. Raw Story pays on a twice-monthly basis. Applicant can be from anywhere in the United States, but is expected to be available from 8 am ET each day.

Please send a cover letter and three published clips that demonstrate [1] a sense of personality or quirky introductions and [2] your experience covering breaking news. Include a clip of your best investigative /enterprise work. Include a cover letter that lays out why you specifically are the best person for the job. Send your materials to: rawapps@gmail.com.

Thanks for applying!
