BREAKING: 8:18 AM ET

Gov Tim. Pawlenty will not be in Dayton today where John McCain is slated to reveal his running mate, saying he "was honored to be considered" and strongly suggesting McCain won't pick him as running mate, Politico revealed Friday morning.

Shortly thereafter, NBC News reported that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is out of the running as well.

Pawlenty said he wouldn't be in Ohio today, but he would be in Minnesota for the GOP convention.

"I'm going to be at the [Minnesota] state fair," Pawlenty reportedly told WCCO.

Asked if he was still under consideration by McCain, Pawlenty quipped, "I will not be in Dayton, Ohio, so I think that's a fair assumption."

"It was an honor to be considered," he added.

McCain is slated to announce his running mate today in Ohio, and plans to tour Pennsylvania and Missouri shortly thereafter with his VP pick.
