Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may not have been able to deliver the White House for Republicans this year, but she's eager to return to the campaign trail.

Word emerged Tuesday that the former GOP vice presidential nominee would travel to Georgia next week to stump for Sen. Saxby Chambliss. After failing to receive a majority of the votes on Election Day, Chambliss will compete in a re-vote against Democratic candidate Jim Martin on Dec. 2, the day after Palin's appearance.

"I was thrilled when I got the call that Governor Palin would be able to make the trip to Georgia to campaign with me the day before the runoff election," Chambliss said in a news release. "Julianne and I are honored that she would take the time to travel to Georgia to tell everyone how important this election is and I know that she will receive an enthusiastic welcome everywhere we go."

Chambliss also will be joined next week by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who ran his own short-lived campaign for the Republican nomination earlier this year, failing to win a single primary.

The traditionally red state saw a closer than expected Senate race this year as Republicans faced worsening prospects across the country.

Republicans are desperate to hold on to Chambliss's seat to avoid a 60-seat Democratic majority in the Senate, which would lead to an easy defeat of most GOP filibuster attempts.

Recent polls show Chambliss holding onto a single-digit lead in the state.

Presumably, local Republicans hope Palin's appearance goes better than her last photo-op.
