On October 17, Senator Obama paid a surprise a Kansas City phone bank and helped supporters make calls for his presidential campaign, talking personally to prospective voters.

"This is the lifeblood of this campaign," he told the staff. "Volunteers like you guys coming in, making phone calls, giving out signs, knocking on doors...it's what makes all the difference in the world."
