McConnell warns of 'increasing danger' from lapsed spy law The sunset of the Protect America Act has the United States facing an ever-increasing danger, according to Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell.
"The entire issue here is liability protection for the carriers," McConnell tells Chris Wallace, referring to the prospect of retroactive immunity for the telecommunications companies which worked with the Bush Administration to gather information on Americans.
According to McConnell, the companies are less likely to help in the future without a guarantee of protection from prosecution.
