| | 'Joe the Plumber' heads to Israel... as a journalist?
Samuel "Joe" Wurzelbacher, the man who achieved overnight fame as a GOP-branded poster boy for middle America during the 2008 presidential race and later a political pundit, conservative media darling and possible candidate for Congress, has graduated to the title of "War Correspondent" for conservative site Pajamas TV.
As violence continues in the Middle East, Wurzelbacher will spend ten days in Israel. "I get to go over there and let their 'Average Joes' share their story, what they think, how they feel, especially with world opinion," he told WNWO.
Wurzelbacher's time in the spotlight started on October 12, 2008 in his Ohio neighborhood when he questioned then-Senator Barack Obama about his tax plan. Specifically, the tradesman said he'd planned to buy the business he'd done plumbing work for, and worried that he'd be saddled with a larger burden on the earnings under Obama than his opponent, Senator McCain, based on their competing tax plans at the time. "Joe the Plumber," as he is more commonly known, would then be mentioned 26 times between both candidates during the first half of the October 15th presidential debate.
"Being a Christian I'm pretty well protected by God I believe," Wurzelbacher added about his assignment. "That's not saying he's going to stop a mortar for me, but you gotta take the chance."
