| | Russert grills Huckabee on 'taste' of fried squirrel
Back in January, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, "When I was in college, we used to take a popcorn popper, because that was the only thing they would let us use in the dorm, and we would fry squirrels in a popcorn popper in the dorm room."
"Ewwww," Scarborough winced. "Too much information!"
However, Tim Russert must have found Huckabee's revelations more intriguing than disturbing, because when Huckabee appeared on Meet the Press, he asked eagerly, "Did you eat them? What does it taste like?"
"I should say it tastes a lot like chiken, but it doesn't. It tastes -- like squirrel," Huckabee replied. "It's not the best thing in the world, but, you know, when you go squirrel hunting, you've got to do something with those things. And part of it was just to say we could do it. It was a college thing."
"But you're off the squirrel now?" wondered Russert.
"I haven't eaten fried squirrel, I think, since college," Huckabee replied. "Thank the lord," he added, raising his eyes reverentially to heaven and spreading his fingers upward in a gesture of prayer.
