David Axelrod may be taking Karl Rove's old job, but he isn't interested in taking the same approach, he told Fox' Chris Wallace on Sunday.

Wallace asked Axelrod if he was going to be the "Karl Rove of this administration."

Axelrod responded: "I've never accepted that comparison," Axelrod told Chris Wallace on 'Fox News Sunday.' "My role with Barack Obama for the last six years has been to help the communications operation impart his message, his values and his vision to the American people. And I expect to continue to do that.

President-elect Barack Obama selected David Axelrod as his senior White House advisor, a position held by Karl Rove during George W. Bush's first term in office. But Axelrod said he is more interested in promoting Obama's message rather than strengthening a political party.

"My role is circumscribed to those responsibilities. I'm not trying to rebuild the Democratic Party or any of these other - I think Mr. Rove had quite an expansive portfolio. I think mine is very focused," said Axelrod.
