Students at Columbia University have staged a walkout to protest a noose found on campus hung from a black professor's door knob. The professor, Madonna Constantine, is the author of the book, Addressing Racism.

Joining the Columbia students was a group of first graders, displaying a hand drawn banner and the slogan "First graders say no to meanness and racism."

According to the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, this was one of two recent copycat "noose" incidents, with the other involving a woman in Queens threatening her neighbor. However, some New York papers are reporting it may have been a result of an academic dispute between Constantine and a fellow professor.
