Jon Stewart reported Tuesday on the ceremonies marking Alberto Gonzales's departure from the Justice Department. He began by playing a clip of a department employee saying, "When I think of the Attorney General, three words come to mind" -- immediately followed by one of Gonzales telling Congress, "I don't recall."

"But there were other tributes to the Attorney General that could also be seen as humorously leading," Stewart continued, showing a DEA administrator commending Gonzales for the "records that you set in the area of drugs."

"Indeed," commented Stewart. "One of those records: Gonzales has now done more to promote short-term memory loss than any Hispanic-American, breaking the old mark held by Cheech."

Finally, Stewart offered a clip of Gonzales himself saying, "I stand before you today, sincerely grateful for the many wonderful memories that I have as the Attorney General."

'You don't remember any of it," Stewart spat out.
