The Daily Show reported Wednesday on the all-night session called by Majority Leader Harry Reid to force the Republicans to stand behind their filibuster of a vote on withdrawal from Iraq.

"To go all night," Stewart said, "Senators only need three things: cots, pizza, and Ted Stevens -- who's there to remind them that if they do fall asleep, he will hunt them down and kill them in their dreams." Stewart's remark was accompanied by an onscreen shot of Stevens gotten up as the villainous Freddy Krueger from Wes Craven's Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

"While Democrats have a majority in the Senate," Stewart explained, "they don't have the 60-vote super-majority needed to bring bills to a vote, thus forcing the Democrats to stay up all night to prevent the Republicans from staging an all-night vote-blocking filibuster. You can see why we're fighting so hard to export this type of government to Iraq."

Stewart then showed a clip of Senator Dick Durbin stating, "It's about time for the Senate to spend at least one sleepless night ... It's an important symbol for the soldiers and families. It really goes to the nature of sacrifice."

Aasif Mandvi expounded on the depth of that sacrifice, saying, "Last night, the brave men and women -- well, mostly men -- of the Talkin' 110th stood up and said 'We are mad as hell, and we are not going to sleep as much as we would normally sleep tonight.'"

"I saw so many things," Mandvi continued. "Lindsay Graham heroically continuing to talk even though he kinda sorta had to pee. Russ Feingold bravely throwing himself on a bucket of wings he saw headed towards Ted Kennedy. ... For you it was one night. But this is something they will have to think about for their entire five-week summer vacation."
