New Hampshire identifies firm behind anti-Mormon push poll CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire's attorney general said voters may not know before next week's primary who was responsible for a series of anti-Mormon phone calls that targeted presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and his faith.
In a report issued Thursday, Attorney General Kelly Ayotte pointed to two firms: Western Wats, of Orem, Utah, which made the calls; and Moore-Information Inc., of Portland, Ore., which hired Western Wats.
She said Western Wats conducted the poll, developed its content and set the dates for the poll to be conducted.
Ayotte sought out-of-state subpoenas to try to force Moore-Information to explain its role and who hired the firm. Moore-Information has claimed it was hired to do the work for the primary, which is exempt from state laws that ban such polling.
New Hampshire asked for a speedy hearing so voters would know if another campaign was responsible for the calls. But a court in Oregon scheduled a hearing on the request for Jan. 16 -- a week after the primary.
Ayotte asked that anyone with information about who hired Moore-Information to conduct the poll to contact her office.
