"Al Gore's son was in jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs after he was pulled over for allegedly driving a hybrid vehicle 100 mph on an Orange County freeway, a sheriff's spokesman said," according to a local CBS News report.

RAW STORY was awaiting comment from Gore's office about the reported arrest.

CNN reported in Feb. 2004 that Gore, III, had been sentenced to a substance abuse program for a Dec. 2003 possession arrest in Maryland.

"The 21-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore must complete substance abuse counseling as part of a pretrial diversion program to settle a marijuana possession charge," the network reported. "The agreement approved by a judge Monday calls for the misdemeanor charge to be dropped after a year if Albert Gore III submits to urine testing, community service and counseling, and steers clear of criminal convictions."

Gore, III, was also ticketed by military police in 2002 for driving under the influence near a military base in Virginia, and for reckless driving in 2000.

Vice President Gore, who won an Oscar this year for his documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth,' is convening the global 'Live Earth' concert series this weekend.
