Glenn Beck: 'Shock jocks' like me targeted by 'leftist witch hunt'
In the video clip below, Glenn Beck claims that "shock jocks" like himself are being targeted by a "leftist witch hunt."
Appearing on CNN's American Morning in a discussion about the firing of Don Imus and other recent radio brouhahas, Beck – himself under fire for his own contentious statements – asserts, "Everybody talks about corporate responsibility and CBS, 'What are they doing to stop this?' What is the average person doing? These companies would not put this kind of material on the air if it wasn't selling. ... You need to take personal responsibility and if you don't like it, turn it off."
Beck continues, "There is a real feeling on the left – they couldn't get the Fairness Doctrine out, so what they're trying is to shut people down. ... This smacks of a leftist witch hunt in many ways."
Christopher Achorn, who runs the anti-Beck website My Two Sense, had this to say: "Mr. Beck's use of the word 'witch hunt' is rather ironic considering that most of his program involves 'witch hunts' of various Democrats and people whom he thinks do not agree with his point of view in one way or another."
In related news, CBS confirmed yesterday that another radio show was cancelled permanently after an on-air prank call to a Chinese restaurant.
