The human dating pool may soon see an immense expansion, according to author David Levy. But it may not be with humans. Count Stephen Colbert skeptical.

On The Colbert Report, the controversial author of Love and Sex with Robots espoused his theory that humans will one day develop emotional attachments to robots.

"The most common reason I think at the beginning will be that there are millions of people out there in the world who for one reason or another can't establish normal relationships with humans," Levy said. "They're lonely, they're miserable, and robots, when they are sophisticated enough, will be an excellent alternative."

Colbert was interested in the type of person who might grow close to the new machines. "Are these people who can't establish a relationship with other human beings," he asked, "are they by any chance people who write about love and sex with robots?"

"No," Levy responded curtly.

Levy stressed that this book was no gimic and should be taken seriously. "This is not science fiction," he said. "This is science fact and it's very well researched."

The author mentioned that one problem psychologists may have to address will be the possibility that if robots are sexually skilled, fewer humans will actually choose to form romantic bonds with each other.

"Once you go bot, you never go back, is what you're saying" Colbert quipped.

Of course, the host was also concerned that his Christian morality would not be threatened by these possible technological innovations.

"Just for the record," he asked, "these are going to be straight robots, right? This isn't going to be anything freaky or strange. These aren't gaybots. These are straight, hetero-robots, the way God intended."
