In an interview with the BBC that aired on Saturday, Harry Belafonte had some strong words to say about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"[Rice] needs somebody to tell her about her blackness, and the abuse of it," the legendary musician, actor and longtime civil rights advocate told the BBC.

Belafonte also explained what he meant when he referred to Rice and her predecessor at Secretary of State as "house slaves."

"Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell serve Bush because they believe as he does; they embrace his ideology; they embrace his imperial appetite," Belafonte said. "They are lackeys, tools of that. And my reference to them as failed house slaves meant that they were not the masters of their own destiny, although they had the choice to be and didn't."
