Jonah Goldberg's new book Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning has provoked controversy and dispute in a variety of media. But at internet commerce giant Amazon.com, Goldberg's critics appear to have advanced a new front in their battle against the book: having it classified as a "parody."

In a Monday morning post at his National Review blog, Goldberg complained about the book's placement on the Amazon pages.

"Over at Amazon, my book's page no longer displays its rank in 'politics,' but in 'parodies,'" the columnist notes in a post with the subject heading, "More Amazon Chicanery."

He adds, "I'm sure it's just an honest mistake."

A screen cap of Amazon's placement of the book among its best-selling parodies, just above the The Onion's new atlas Our Dumb World, is provided below:

Critics of Goldberg's book have actively sought to undermine the book at Amazon. Bloggers have taken note of the meta-tags attached to the book's Amazon entry, such as "wingnut welfare," "i can has job mom," and "if michelle malkin is over your head."

Additionally, prior to the book's release, hackers changed the entry's subtitle on Amazon to read, "The Totalitarian Temptation from When I Got My Advance Until I finally Hand in the Manuscript in 2011," according to Publishers Weekly.

However, while the book is atop the parodies list, it also ranks high on the politics list at Amazon. The book ranks #30 on Amazon overall.

Goldberg's book has provoked controversy, including a rambunctious January appearance on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. In the segment, Stewart took the unusual step of noting that he was incapable of airing the interview without heavy editing because of the length of his argument with the writer.

In his exchange with Goldberg, Stewart slammed the author's reasoning.

"That's literally like saying mustaches are fascist [because] Hitler had a mustache," the comedian remarked in the interview after reflecting on Goldberg's argument that some prominent liberals in the United States expressed sympathies with European fascist governments in the early 20th century.
