Female KBR employees, victims of alleged sexual assaults in Iraq, go public with their stories A woman who says she was sexually assaulted by a U.S. State Department employee while working for Halliburton in Iraq has come forward to tell her story in public for the first time.
In the video below, ABC's Brian Ross talks with Jamie Leigh Jones, who accepted an offer to work in Iraq for Halliburton subsidiary KBR in 2005. Less than a week after arriving in Iraq, Baker alleges she was served what she believes was a drug-laced drink by a group of KBR men, blacking out and later waking up naked, bruised and bleeding. An examination by an Army doctor confirmed her fears that she had been gang-raped.
After reporting the assault, Jones was stung by the indifference from KBR's corporate office. "It's been two years," says Jones, who believes there has been a cover-up of her case. "I've been waiting for justice for two years."
Another woman who went to work for KBR in Iraq, Tracy Barker, alleges that a U.S. State Department official there attempted to rape her. The official later stated to investigators that he had "gone too far," but his case was declined for prosecution by the Justice Department.
"I'm an American citizen being assaulted by a State Department employee," charges Barker, "and nobody cares."
