"Is the Pope trying to change American politics?" asks Diane Sawyer on ABC's Good Morning America.

Reporter Dan Harris contrasts remarks regarding abortion from GOP presidential candidates Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney with Pope Benedict's recent assertion that lawmakers who legalize abortion should be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

"The Pope certainly can elevate the debate and force presidential aspirants to grapple with these issues," says the president of a polling company to ABC's Dan Harris, who asks, "So even though he doesn't vote here, he doesn't live here, he wasn't elected here, he can impact the race here?" The pollster replies, "Sure."
