New Delhi- Rescue workers in the southern Indian state of
Andhra Pradesh have found bodies of 59 victims who were killed when
their boat capsized in the Krishna River five days ago, the police
said Monday.
Twelve bodies were retrieved Monday and 47 on Sunday, an official
at the police control room in Andhra Pradesh capital Hyderabad said.
The overcrowded boat carrying more than twice its capacity sank in
the Krishna River about 110 kilometres south-west of Hyderabad on
Thursday.
While 18 people were either rescued or swam to the shore, more than
60 were feared missing.
Army and navy divers joined rescue operations, the police said.
Several women and children were among the victims, mostly Hindu
pilgrims from villages in Kurnool and Mahboobnagar districts who were
returning from a religious festival.
