10 Iraqis killed, 25 wounded, 79 detained around Iraq

Baghdad- At least 10 Iraqis were killed, 12 others injured
and 79 detained Thursday in ongoing violence around Iraq, sources
said.
A bomb implanted in a minibus went off in Karada district in
central Baghdad, killing at least six Iraqis and injuring 12 others,
an Iraqi police source said.

In another incident, at least three people were killed and 12
others wounded Thursday in northern Baghdad, witnesses said.

The residential area in Azamiyah was bombarded with about five
mortar shells killing at least three Iraqis and wounding 12 others,
the witnesses added.

A number of districts in Azamiyah were bombarded Tuesday with more
than 25 mortar shells that killed at least 17 people and wounded 72
others.

Azamiyah is mostly populated by Sunni Muslims.

US-led coalition forces killed one suspected terrorist and
detained 29 others Thursday in operations around Iraq, the US
military reported.

The suspects were reportedly linked to the al-Qaeda terrorist
network and foreign militant activities in Syria and Iraq in Iraq,
the report added.

US-led coalition forces detained 18 suspected terrorists in Salah
Eddin province, north of Baghdad.

In other operations, US-led coalition forces shot dead an armed
suspected terrorist.

Forces also detained five suspected terrorists in Rutbah, about 60
kilometeres west of Baghdad.

Four suspected terrorists were captured by US-led coalition forces
in Baghdad.

One suspect was detained in Tikrit in Salah Eddin province, 180
kilometeres north of Baghdad.

Meanwhile, police in Iraq arrested Thursday 50 Arabs and Kurds
suspected of attacking pilgrims in the town of Khanaqin during the
Shiite festival of Ashura, an Iraqi police source said.

"The Iraqi police forces in Khanaqin launched a campaign at dawn
arresting 50 suspects, seizing several arms caches and explosives
that they possessed," said Edris Mawloud, Khaniqin sheriff.

The police action follows a blast targeting a Shiite procession
during the Ashura festival Tuesday in Khanaqin, 180 kilometres
north-east of Baghdad and close to the border with Iran, killing
about 13 Shiite pilgrims and wounding more than 23 others.
