Wellington- Staff at a New Zealand casino are wearing flea
collars designed for cats and dogs around their ankles to combat an
infestation of the pests in the carpet, a newspaper reported Sunday.
"It's really, really horrible," one worker told the Herald on
Sunday.
"It's a really big problem, especially if you're allergic to
things like that. I have brought fleas home, and they've infested the
bedroom and bottom floor of my house. They get into my socks at work,
everywhere."
The paper said the fleas apparently loved the warmth of the
casino's carpet and the heat generated by gaming machines for
breeding grounds.
A spokeswoman said that the Sky City casino in Auckland had an
active pest management programme to deal with flea infestations, and
had not been made aware of any recent problems.
