Mueller, Schruff dumped from German tennis top squad

Wernigerode, Germany- German tennis players Martina Mueller und Julia Schruff were on the weekend dumped from the national federation DTB's top squad after not playing at a recent Fed Cup tie. Mueller, who is ranked 35 in the world, and the 81st-placed Schruff did not play in the relegation tie in China in September, with Germany losing 4-1. Fed Cup captain Barbara Rittner said the two made excessive financial demands and then let down the team.

World number 20 Anna-Lena Groenefeld and unheralded players such as Kristina Barrois and Kathrin Woehrle will now attempt to lift Germany back into the Fed Cup World Group next year.
