Hugo Boss sees China as emerging fashion powerhouse

Hamburg, Germany- Hugo Boss chief Bruno Saelzer said Wednesday he sees China as a fashion world to conquer. "I warn anyone who equates Asia only with a cheap fashion style that there is a long tradition of fashion (in Asia) and that the Chinese can meet the Europeans when it comes to quality," Saelzer told the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit.

"Asians have an unbelievable fashion sense," the chief of the German fashion powerhouse told the newspaper.

"Collections will be more and more influenced by Asia," he said, adding there are more Asian models in the fashion business today than there were a decade ago.

Saelzer said he was advising his employers not to travel to Italy five times a year any more. Once a year to Italy is enough, he said, with four trips to China.
