Sarajevo- A mosque in the southern Bosnia-Herzegovina city of Mostar was badly damaged early Tuesday by a rocket-propelled grenade, police in the city confirmed. Police spokeswoman Lejla Trivun said the mosque in Jesenice, a western suburb of the city, was struck by a 60-millimetre grenade fired by unknown attackers.

Trivun said police were investigating, but did not reveal further details.

The mosque in Jesenice was rebuilt in recent years after being badly damaged during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Mostar remains ethnically divided between Bosnian Croats, who control the western part of the city, and Bosnian Muslims on the eastern side.

The incident coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
