Munich- The future of electronic giant Siemens AG's German mobile phone business has been thrown into fresh doubt after a spokesman said Thursday that its new owners, Taiwan-based BenQ, planned to apply for insolvency for the unit. About 3,000 jobs have been placed at risk by the move, which comes just one year after BenQ took over the Siemens mobile phone operations.

BenQ plans to continue production of its BenQ-Siemens brand mobile phones in Asia threatening the jobs of 1,400 working in the group's head office in Munich and factories in Bocholt and Kamp-Lintfort.
