Absolut to end longstanding bottle advertising campaign

Absolut Vodka is ditching its 25-year bottle-inspired advertising campaign in favor of television adverts featuring Marilyn Monroe and the moon landing, according to the New York Post.

Still, the company doesn't plan to completely abandon the Absolut transformation of all things it has become so widely known for.

A classic example was "Absolut Manhattan," which featured an aerial view of the city with Central Park reshaped in the form of an Absolut bottle. ...

The ads, which number more than 1,500 since the campaign began in 1980, have spawned hundreds of fan sites, collector's books and spoofs.

Absolut and its ad agency contend the bottle-inspired work will continue to make an appearance from time to time.

"They will never go away," [Absolut advertiser] TBWA's Smiley said. "They will always be there to reinforce what we do."
