So THAT's the freedom they're dying for. Censorship and propaganda- beautiful, just beautiful.

Navy has been blocking both of these for months, and it's not just overseas. They also go into a panic and remove from the network and sent alerts to security if anyone is using TOR. Tor is used to protect privacy and is used by journalists , law enforcement, and anyone who wants to help protect their privacy. Certain offices of the Navy use it in intelligence gathering as well, but sailors and civilians on base will get in trouble if they use it. I know this with 100% certainty as I am an IT worker for the navy and have seen the alerts and have had to remove it from computers. :(

Defense Dept. Blocks MySpace, YouTube
Needless distractions from the Homeland? What is next, telling our soldiers lies about their loved ones? The Stockholm Syndrome is achieved by a particular pattern of treatment to those whom it victimizes. We should all be a little frightened right now! Your papers please!

Another brick in the wall
Put this together with the policy, announced a couple of days ago, by the Iraqi government that journalists will no longer be allowed to photograph the scenes of bombings and other attacks in that country and one can very well imagine that what we are seeing is a orchestrated plan to block all negative messages from the mess in Potamia. Once again, "Your tax dollars at work".

Cheney, "Kick out the press"...
The "Hide our failure in Iraq" censorship propoganda campaign is shifting into 3rd gear of a 4 speed transmission. 4th gear will be the elimination of all but FOX News coverage of the war.

Democracy
The 'duty' of members of the armed services is to 'defend' democracy not to 'practice' it. I was surprised that the military allowed them to have any access to computer networks. It makes opsec a hell of a lot harder. Then again I'm just an ol' salt from the days of sail. When men were men, and women and their whining stayed out of the damn war.

Batiste on You TUbe?
Think this has anything with Genral Batiste and VoteVets placing their anti-iraq war ad last week? http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=QOv0F47E08U&fromurl=/watch%3Fv%3DQOv0F47E08U

Well first of all the bandwith argument is stupid. Unless the military is using dial up. It is censorship. But once you are in the military you are at the mercy of their policy. I think it sucks that some soilders can't continue be in touch with friends.

The guy who came up with the bandwidth argument must have been talking with Ted Stevens from Alaska, who gave us the "tubes" comment. I wonder if he's gotten his emails, yet, or if all those idiots downloading movies are still keeping him from getting anything? It's just a series of tubes, after all...

Oh, and it's REALLY about things not getting OUT, not about things coming in. They don't give a rat's ass what the soldiers see from home, it's what they might be sending home that could get into the press that they fear like the devil himself.

sheer censorship
WJM - ha ha!! Ted Stevens and his tubes... good stuff.. funny shit. They don't want stuff getting out is right. They don't want anyone to see the horror that the shrub has unleashed on the world. But I bet this causes an even bigger dip in morale, as if the soldiers aren't on the brink of insanity already. I don't think this is a good move. I think it's going to cause upheaval. You don't take something the soldiers probably count on like contact with their loved ones or just good ol' American entertainment, and expect them not to be very upset by it.

Sounds great to me, the less of those retards I come in contact with, the better.
