(Denver) A “serious budget shortfall” at Focus on the Family has prompted the conservative Christian group to issue a special fundraising plea, and contributed to a decision to cede control of its contentious “Love Won Out” conferences about homosexuality to another religious organization, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Focus on the Family, founded by child psychologist James Dobson, is on pace to fall $6 million short of a $138 million budget for the fiscal year that began last October, spokesman Gary Schneeberger said.
Jim Daly, president and CEO of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based evangelical ministry, explained the challenges in a letter to approximately 800,000 donors.

The Lord works in mysterious & wonderful ways.
I would like to think people are getting smarter when it comes to snake oil salesman like Dobson but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed. This may be in part, because of the economy. Time will tell.
And a few points shy on the IQ scale.
[...] knew that would grab your attention. So it seems that Focus on the Family is running out of money (link). Apparently $138 million dollars was just too much to spend on fags. “Right now [...]
Ah Christian Extremism at its finest! Who says we can't have our own Al-Qaeda in the USA? Do what we say or we'll get you!
For those Christian Extremist - he - check out my user name on here and get a mouthful!
Lol, what did his diamond mine deal with mass murder charles talyor go bust OR did he shift all the funds to stop health care OR climate control OR did he just shift all the fund off shore?
$6 million? Please. These televangelists/carnival barkers live in megamansions, drive $75,000 cars and wear $3000 suits. So they might not be able to buy a new Lear Jet this year, and to make do with last year's model. I still think that $6 million would be something they could withhold from their wives' weekly allowance for a month, and still leave them with enough to buy two first class round trip tickets to Paris to buy some Dior originals out of pocket change.
James Dobson is a psychologist. I do not know if he is a member of the American Psychological Association but as a psychologist if he continued advocating that same sex attractions can be overcome in face of overwhelming evidence it can't, hI believe he risks reprimand and/or expulsion from that organization. They would not want him taking that p[position as a "psychologist". The practice of psychology is evidence driven. You need research to support your position.
I guess this huge Bush recession has its silver linings. The fact that Dobson is hurting makes it a little easier to smile.
Never fear, The Christianist meat puppets will gladly take time off from scareing 90 yr. old women to tears by telling them Obama is going to leave them out on an ice flow, to write a check for the killing of homos. After all Herr Dobson got his start from donations fron the Fellowship Foundation, AKA The Family, on C street in DC. You couldn't expect the corporations who hire Fucus in the Fanny to help deny health care to families to pay for their own dirty work. Could you?
A $138 million dollar TAX FREE annual budget to spread ignorance and hate. Wow!
Who would Jesus hustle for a few mil?
HOW ABOUT A BAILOUT?! You folks wanna chip in?
Maybe, the evangelicals are starting to question the perverts who run their churchs?
Funny, Jesus is known to me as the "Prince of Peace". Why do these folks hate so much, I think they like to "project" on others so as to NOT have to look on their own "evil" deeds... You go donors, give him your money! Money, Money, Money...oh, that's right...MONEY saves souls, MONEY builds God's churchs, MONEY pays the pastors and isn't MONEY the root of all evil???
You go..."christians"...note the small "c"...

What a shame! Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of bigots.
Dobson and the rest of the Professional Religious Elite will continue to prosper, fly in private jets and live in mansions...and ignore taxes.
Ah, to live the Rich life of the P.R.E. - pushing BS to the masses and collecting checks and while soaking Grandma.
Enjoy a soak in the hot tub, Jimbo.
Ha, ha, ha -- so much for the campaign against GLBT rights. These religious freakazoids are experiencing financial shortfalls and they cut their program to "convert homosexuals" from their sin to their idea of holy purity and godliness. I love it.
Eventually, Karmas comes around and bites you in the ass when you least expect. Couldn't happen to a better group of bigots, sexists, and racists.
Its sadly ironic that these christian groups feel the need to demonize people to the tune of millions of dollars when that money could have gone to much better things. Dobson was a member of the secretive CNP, an unholy alliance of corporate, religious and military people from Falwell to Coors beer to former generals.
A fraud like Dobson deserves all the trouble he gets.
Dobson might have to spread his butt cheeks for a little extra cash.
BBBBBbbwwwwwwaaaahhhaaaaaaa....hahahahhahaahahhahahahha..!!!
Let 'em cook.
I guess HATE isn't selling like it did last year....maybe they ought to change their 800 number to 888 (or 666....damien)
Unfortunately, this just passes the "onus" from Dobson's Focus on the Family to the other hate-filled group "Exodus". What a farce. We must work to destroy this group also. They are possibly even more psychologically destructive as Dobson's propaganda arm. There needs to be a "Freedom From Religion" conversion group. Religion has destroyed more than gayness has.
TAXATION of religions is also a "must-do". Maybe this will be good as they will have less funding to combat the gay marriage battle in California coming in 2010.
A friend of mine used to like Dobson and talked me into reading a couple of his books. Dobson really targets the fearful masses without high IQs or much education. Makes a trilogy out of God, family and church. Dobson likes to tell 'em how to run their lives. Easier than thinking for themselves, I guess.
do they have a paypal account? i will send them an invoice for a nice swift boot in the ass. when they pay it, i will happily deliver it.
my terms are so flexible, i will even take a post-dated check.
Hard to weep over the travails of such a mean-spirited, closed-minded man and his sheep-like followers. How anyone can actually read the Bible and think that "Focus on the Family" is something Jesus would be proud of is beyond me. I'm guessing most of his followers have never actually read the whole book, just the snippets that are spoon-fed to them complete with a re-jiggered interpretation.
Missing money huh? OK Dobson, bend over and spread that big ass, it's time for a cavity search.
Trooper u r hilarious!
138 Billion dollar "budget" tax free to spew Hatred & Stupidity! "Priceless"
No seriously folks dobson will get his numb nutz in a vise of "Love"!
Karma is now started to settle in 6 Billion here , 10 Billion there!
The evil that surrounds dobson & all the Other religious freak phools
are on Notice!
Blessed are the 'warmongers" for they shall be Sons of the Devil!
dobson 2:12-14
Focus on the Family already accomplished their goals... It was called Bush / Cheney 2000. And Bush / Cheney 2004.
Go re-read the Blackwater articles....
Where's the worry coming from? The group is professing 800,000 donors; at ten bucks a pop that's eight million bucks, more than enough to cover the shortfall with two million change. Treat the two mil like loaves and fishes and voila! Problem solved.
Let's see if I understand this: "Focus on the Family" has a $138 million budget while Jesus was homeless.
Guess I'll write another check to my local homeless shelter -- let Dobson and his crowd of hypocrites go to hell.
Interesting - cause I read they "FOF" (damm I hate them) gave something like 50K or more to Fund the Anti-GAy intiative in Maine to TAKE AWAY the RIGHT to Marry for LGBT people...and why is it, that it's ONLY the LGBT people who's RIGHTS as Americans are ALLOWED to be voted on? WTF is going on here???
Blame it on all the highly rated reality shows with always having at least one token gay. People have been desensitized. Raising money against all the "fags" isn't what it used to be.
$138 million budget for this? no wonder my gaydar goes off around so many of these "christians". its just sad to see people force themselves to deny who they are instead of accepting and loving themselves while these jerks profit from their misery. i think conan o'brien said it best, "adam lambert and millions of teen-aged girls have proven, you can't pray away the gay".
Whatever happened to that old Queen that needs to come out of the closet?.
The poster that would go bezerk over any gay reference
Remember his ID was 'jhoffa' or something like that.
.
Is that her in post #4?
"jhoffa."
For all his "gay" fantasizing, I call him "jackoffa." Once a freak, always a freak.
Fuckus and the Family is all they are about.
What Dobson's group preaches bears no resemblance at all to the Christian beliefs and principles I grew up with and continue to hold. Christ was all about love and inclusion, not hate and exclusion.
Dobson needs to go back to his real profession . . . child psychology. He was better at that than he has been a phony preaching.
Personally, I think he protests too much about gays. Reminds me of Haggerd.
LMAO - I guess Dobson's sheep can't spare an extra buck or two from their unemployment checks.
Oh, the Flying Spaghetti Monster works is mysterious ways!!
Let's see now. 800,000 donors. If each sends $10, that covers the deficit and leaves enough for a PARTY. Remember, send the $10 or burn in HELL.
This is the part of recession that's actually fun to watch.
Good luck fomenting hate on good looks alone, you sloping-foreheaded, web-toed, knuckledragging hypochristians. God hates Christians.
JAG - truer words were never said.
Never, unless they were also applied to RedStater and the rest of the reichwing dipshits on this site.
There is a God.
So why aren't the gods paying for it?
Isn't it their idea?
Wait is this one of those things from the cash poor god that hires all the beggars you hear about every week? Is that the one?
Maybe the gods don't care about this particular item.
Maybe mythology interpreted by con men isn't a good foundation for morality or family values.
Hey why doesen't he get a job to pay for his movement himself? He could quit telling people supernatural creatures want us to live a certain way when it's really him and his buddies that want to be leaders.
JLewd
I expand my definition to cover said parties of the first part and the second part and their married first cousins and their dogs too.
Boo hoo!
It was ALWAYS about THE MONEY Dobson could get to become rich
while duping his followers with his HYPOCRISY and LIES.
Maybe they can call up the "mormon" church and have monson cop them a loan with some of the money left over from ballot 8 in California.
I wish Dobson and his nuts were even farther in debt. Less money to spread intolerance and hate.
I hope they all starve to death.

Maybe if they had been a little more Christ-like, and a lot less Christian, they would not be in these financial straits.
JAG - I'd expand it to include shitshallremain from another post -- that assclown is long-winded, proudly ignorant, and as full of himself as his mouth is with dick. Really: the length of his smug, self-indulgent posts stretches the meaning of the phrase "pompous, pontificating ass" to new dimensions.
