Video of Michael Jackson's infamous 1984 Pepsi commercial mishap

Us Magazine has exclusive video of the 1984 Pepsi commercial in which faulty fireworks burned up the late entertainer's hair which, as Us alleges, triggered his pill addiction.

I'd seen a still photo of the accident here and there over the years, but it looks far worse on film.

oh my god! that was awful. may be the reason for his skin lightening. have read he was wearing wigs due to the scarring. maybe the other plastic surgeries were part of this accident. appears he and others, did not know his hair was on fire. i would have nightmares forever and not able to sleep.

"...triggered his pill addiction." ... That is BS. Mr. Jackson had no such thing.

THIS is the reason for his skin lightening? YEAH RIGHT!...that's why HIS WHOLE BODY SUDDENLY BECAME WHITE...god...get a clue. Or just watch the video...his SCALP and probably portions of his face near his hairline were burned -- AND IT'S A HORRIBLE THING TO HAVE HAPPEN...but this in no way caused his entire pigmentation to turn lighter than most white people...Even Michael Jackson, himself, didn't use this as an excuse...he tried to blame it on vitiligo. Which usually appears patchy...not as uniformly white pigmentation all over. Who knows...he obviously had some extremely disturbing body image issues. Just compare how he looks on the OFF THE WALL album compared to later (even by THRILLER, you can see that he had plastic surgery to alter the the nose, etc.)

sorry but this is just tasteless. i would expect this shit from drudge but not raw.

you might as well headline 'michael jackson on fire'.

Not a MJ fan. Never have been. Didn't like his predilection towards kids.

However, that was scary stuff, and it is sadly horrible that it happened to him.

And, yes, sahhaf, he was an addict, so get over yourself. It has happened to people better and worse than MJ.

  7. Yes, Michael did have vitiligo, and yes it did appear in patches. He used makeup - a LOT of makeup - for years to cover it up. In some extreme cases it has been known to cause pigment loss over the majority of the body. If you look up vitiligo on Google and look at the images, some of the first one s that come up are of Michael where you can see his skin patching as far back as 1982.

I agree decora especially when rawstory is supposed to be about publishing news
that is under served by the mainstream media which this video clearly does not fit that category.

Maybe somebody wanted his haters to feel sympathy for him but this video is just horrible and in very bad timing. Tragedies caught on tape that are promoted for ratings just for shock and reality factor is really sick. I really feel for his family, friends, kids and fans at this time. Like MJ said, "They dont really care about us."
But, keep hope alive people. Just not BO fake notion of hope.

If he didn't have so much friggin' hair spray in his hair, it never would have ignited that easily.
