A Senate committee erupted in laughter Thursday after one lawmaker announced his intention to "do crack cocaine" with a fellow senator. The Congress members knew immediately it was a mistake since with things so heated between parties no one would ever believe in a bipartisan crack cocaine session.
"Senator Leahy and I are talking during these hearings, we're gonna do that crack cocaine thing that you and I have talked about," Sen. Sessions (R-AL) said Thursday afternoon.
TPM's Josh Marshall tapped it as a quote of the day contender.
The AP notes that it "cracked up the crowd."
"The top Republican at Judge Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court hearing was talking about trying to schedule a Judiciary Committee hearing on the disparity between the sentencing of power cocaine abusers and crack cocaine users," the AP adds.
However, one conservative blogger doesn't think Sessions made a mistake.
Jillian Bandes writes at Townhall.com:
Talking about reducing the use of crack cocaine, Sen. Sessions said "We're going to do that crack cocaine thing," and then quickly corrected himself, in what was clearly a not-accidental breach of speech. The point, it seems, was to draw attention to Sotomayor's excuse that she "mis-spoke" when she used her infamous "wise Latina" phrase over and over again.

When is the media going to actually report the FULL context of Sotomayor's statement re: "a wise Latina woman"? In context, it has the OPPOSITE meaning that people have attached to it.
This is a pretty good one once I understood the context of the remark. Sessions can be funny when he isn't so full of himself.
If Sessions is the best Alabam has to offer, no wonder they are a bunch of dumb fuck red necks.
Sen. Sessions = Freudian joke slip = that stupid old crackhead.
How come the republicans are always making with the illicit dim-witted puns?
They coming out of the closet after years of repressed deviancies?
Sessions cracks up Sotomayor hearing with 'crack cocaine' misstatement
and this is news now days?
WHO GIVES A SHIT!! AND FUCK WHO EVER WROTE THIS THINKING IT'S NEWS...
Sotomayor Quote Scam a Right Wing Sham(E)
Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo-- said LA RAZA is just like the "KKK without the hoods and nooses". Well No, the KKK killed and intimidated people. LA RAZA doesn't. By Tancredo's reasoning (or what little reasoning he can do with his tiny, shriveled, weak, puny mind) the VFW is an old man version of the KKK.
The other Right Wing talking point, that Sotomayor is a racist because she said, and here is the PARTIAL quote that the Right keeps using,
"...a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male."
The beginning and the end of that quote are very disingenuously left off the bullshit that the Right is spewing.
The ENTIRE quote is
"Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O’Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O’Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."
During his confirmation hearing Sam Alito made basically the same remarks--
"And that's why I went into that in my opening statement. Because when a case comes before me involving, let's say, someone who is an immigrant -- and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases -- I can't help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn't that long ago when they were in that position.
And so it's my job to apply the law. It's not my job to change the law or to bend the law to achieve any result.
But when I look at those cases, I have to say to myself, and I do say to myself, "You know, this could be your grandfather, this could be your grandmother. They were not citizens at one time, and they were people who came to this country.
When I have cases involving children, I can't help but think of my own children and think about my children being treated in the way that children may be treated in the case that's before me.
And that goes down the line. When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."
The Right makes kneejerk comments w/out knowing the full quote. She meant that white men cannot make the same judgments I make as a latina woman. And her quote certainly does not say, as Sen. Sessions has said, that she is better than someone else.
Let's see, based on Sessions comment I guess it is safe to assume that he is a crackhead, or Am I taking his words out of context?

Maybe that's why he is such a racist. He's fried his brain on cocaine when he got turned down by the same committee he is on turned him down for a federal judgeship BECAUSE he was a racist. He is STILL a racist.
He is a disgrace to the Senate (as are most republiKKKons on the committee) and to the United States of America. WHAT A LOSER!!! Sen. Jeffery Bouregard Sessions III, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH........
the spelling is "Beauregard". Coincidentally, the same name as the hound dog in Pogo, who was not a bad chap, unlike this demon. What an utter snake he is.
These unregenerate Tobacco Road Dogpatch rednecks — have you noticed where all the trouble comes from? Either from Wall St. or from Dogpatch. Economic royalists like Romney, or latifundist aristocrats from Dixieland, still holding on to their Confederate money, their sharecroppers still incredibly following lock-step, against their own interests, but they prefer their false pride to economic well being.
All Republickins are smoking crack in the bathroomwith the Blur Dogs and the NDC. Talk about niggers! ( No offense meant to anyone but politicians and Jesus Nutters.)
Every time I see that guy, my gaydar goes off.
Where'd the news go? Where's the news? What happened to the news? We have news? What happened to the news? Used to be, we had news? Where'd it go? Ain't we go news no more?
