Meghan McCain: Joe the Plumber is a 'dumbass'

meghanmccainandfamily

The daughter of failed presidential candidate John McCcain is dealing the dirt on one of her father's more peculiar political friends, the Republican 'everyman' know as Joe the Plumber, aka Samuel Wurzelbacher, who is not really a plumber.

This scoop from the lovingly gay, Out.com:

But what so recently seemed antithetical to mainstream Republicanism has lately gained support from unlikely supporters, including former vice president Dick Cheney, who recently expressed support for gay marriage, and Theodore Olson, a lawyer who represented George W. Bush during the contested election of 2000 and who is now working to overturn Prop 8. And John McCain’s former campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt, told the Log Cabin Republicans that same-sex marriage was consistent with sound conservative principles. As for her father, McCain says, “He’s 73 and of a different generation. I hope someday he will come around.” But she also credits her own progressive position to her upbringing, recalling a precocious fourth-grade classmate who told her he was gay.

When McCain asked her mother what “gay” meant, she replied “That’s how God made him, and we love everyone.”

Yet even as the balance begins to shift, the old guard is still yapping in the foreground. Shortly before McCain sat for this interview, Samuel Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, gave an interview to Christianity Today in which he complained about “queers” and declared, “I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children.” Unprompted, McCain rails against the man her father’s presidential campaign touted as an American everyman and made a showpiece in the weeks before the election. “Joe the Plumber -- you can quote me -- is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing.

Shocking.

    This is news to anybody?

  3. Mark

Joe is not a plumber Megan. Get your facts straight.

Correction: Joe the Plumber was seized upon by the GOP when the opportunity presented itself. He was a walking sound byte.

But he was untrained. Uncultured. He was some schmuck the GOP picked up in a vain attempt to connect with "Joe Average"

You and your father are the dumb asses.

His incompetence can be forgiven.. Like Palin, he is what he is and you knew it when you picked him up!

The McCain's serial deceit, OTOH, isn't nearly as easy to explain away.

    Not even close.

  5. Patience

Does anyone not know he didn't win the election ('failed Presidential candidate')? I understand that facts need to be dumbed down for a lot of people but...oh I get it, it was a dig at him. Carry on then.

    545 PEOPLE
    By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Jhoffa_ Keep one or two honest ones!!!!

  9. Jhoffa_

    @gypski

That's about all we'll have to concern ourselves with.. A handful at best.

  10. Veronica

Uh, thanks for that Captain Obvious.

Well, you can thank your old and feeble father for Joe the Unlicensed and Non-Taxpaying Plumber.

  11. Geoffrey Swenson

I don't know why so many here feel the need to disparage Megan for her remarks about [not] Joe [not] the Plumber. It is refreshing to hear someone so close to the inner Republican circle saying these things, even if they are obvious to most outside of the GOP.

The Republican party needs to come to an understanding that a large part of the message for the past 20 years has been complete BS, and the public knows it and isn't fooled any more. Megan (and a heck of a lot of other Republicans) know it.

The only way they can get traction again in the poitical arena is to create a new line of more believable BS or perhaps even start proposing policies more aligned with the facts and with real problems.

I don't think that will happen for quite a while.

  12. pitbullstew

I am begining to like this chick more an more? any one who dislike Joe the ploomer is a friend of mine.

  13. alfredo

I have always thought that Joe the (NON) Plumber was exactly what McCane's daughter now says he is. Please, count Frank the Firefighter in the same cathegoory also.

  14. E Z Rider

This is a no news item...
Everyone in the world that has seen joe the plummer, knows and knew when they first saw hem that he was a dumbass....

So where is the story here.

  15. prissypatriot

Keep telling it like it is, Meghan! At least her father wasn't able to totally corrupt her thought process...

  16. dave

    mehgan, good one.

  17. real

So is the entire gop leadership and the majority of their ignorant voters.

  18. Saul N. Green

    She's right.
I knew it the first time I saw him.

  19. carol h.

Actually being a dumbass, is something he could only aspire to. Just the information that he was married was something to contemplate. She must have met him in the dark and married him in the same condition. Surely this man would be the kind to breed a new generation. Someone should check him for web feet. He believes being gay is the same as being a pedophile.

Meghan must know her father has much to answer for. Sarah Palin and Joe the non plumber. This says volumes for his intelligence. But no one ever said her father was that bright. McCain himself who graduated three from the bottom of his class of 500 would think Palin was smart, because he could not judge.

Joe is milking this for all that he can get out of his notoriety. And it has. It is not sustainable but it is here. There are enough stupid people in this country willing and as dumb as he is, to listen to his unintelligible rantings. Water finds it's own level.

  20. disappointed voter

She's right - Joe the Plumber's Helper IS a dumbass. But so's her father. Not only that, but that asshole very nearly stuck the country with President Sarah Palin. I'll never forgive him for that.

  21. Tom of MD

    Joe might be an operative?

  22. Gray

There should be more honest conservatives like Megan. Or - maybe not. Because with more folks like her, the GOP would have a future. Who wants that?
    :D

  23. w.c.

ALL republicans are dumbasses...trouble is so are most of the dems...we are doomed by our own elected dumbasses...

  24. Jack

Instead of being knocked down, she should be praised for daring to speak the truth about the GOP and the idiots in the party. There should be a lot more liberal Republicans willing to speak out like Meghan McCain. She can't help her father is a dumbass, so let's cut her some slack.

  25. Heil Mary

Jhoffa_ is every bit the nasty, ignorant bigot that Joe the Plumber and most politicians are. If he ever ran for any office, his racism, adulteries, ILLEGAL job firings of perceived gays and disgusting comments here and in Freeperville would get plenty of Letterman shreddings.

  26. rabiddog

LOL, Joe the Plumber is a dumb ass. All Politicians lie, though, it's in their genes. they are professionals at it.

  27. C.VAl

McCain, Palin, Bush, Cheney, Joe - dumbasses all of them. And so is anyone who votes Republican.

  28. sspeedracer

sorry, couldn't get past the rack in order to read the article.

  29. Ben

You know, every time Meghan says something like this, she becomes a little hotter. Even if I disagree with her on some things, the way she publicly calls certain people out gives me smiles.

  30. Resiprocity

She still has aways to go after the schooling she got on Real Time... but she is getting there.

  31. Rick

Uh...Joe actually is a plumber. He's not a licensed plumber which is normal for skilled trades. If you work for a company that is licensed, you don't need a license of your own. Just because he doesn't have his own license does not mean he's not a plumber. Most individuals in any of the skilled trades are not licensed. So he is without a doubt a plumber. What a lame article.

  32. she's be hot if she'd keep her mouth shut.. stupid just isn't pretty...

  33. If you don't have the license, Rick, you're not the title. Period. You can drive a car without your license, but you're not a driver. Joe is a Plumber's ASSISTANT.. by title and definition. But don't let technicalities and facts get in the way..

Oh, and his name isn't Joe, either.. it's Samuel. But "The Average Joe", "Joe Sixpack".. they don't lend them selves to quite the same "psychological hook" as "Sam the Plumber's Assistant".. see the inherent lie?

  34. John Brown

    Video is here: http://linkthe.com/2009/07/16/meghan-mccain-calls-joe-the-plumber-a-‘dumb-ass’-msnbc’s-contessa-brewer-agrees/

  35. Veronica

    Rick:

You're wrong. Just because the company is licensed, it isn't a blanket license which extends to all employees. Each plumber working for said company must have a license of his own, or he doesn't get hired to do the work. The same thing applies to carpenters, electricians, mechanics, etc.

A plumber's assistant, however, can get hired to do work ... not plumbing work, but grunt work.

Joe the Unlicensed and Tax Cheating Plumber is nothing more than an unlicensed grunt.
