South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has cleared his schedule this week to take a personal trip with his wife, three weeks after announcing his extramarital affair with an Argentine woman, his office announced Wednesday.
Sanford is taking off the rest of the week for a trip out of state with first lady Jenny Sanford, spokesman Joel Sawyer said.
"This trip is personal in nature, and we're not going to offer any further comment," said Sawyer, who said the couple will be gone through this coming weekend. "The governor remains committed to repairing the damage he's done to his marriage, and so it shouldn't be any surprise that spending personal time with his wife is a part of that process."
The couple's four sons will not be with them on the trip, Sawyer said.
What are the odds it will end up in divorce, once his governorship is over?
Well, What do you think? Are they going to Buenos Aires? Naw, I'll bet they're going hiking on the Old Appalachian Trail!
I have heard that if his wife leaves him, he cannot be re-elected. And for the life of me I can't understand why should they be linked together?
His personal life as tacky as it is, is irrelevant. The fact is he failed as the head of a state. He left for a week and could not be found. He left his state without an functioning head. And in fact he intended to be gone for ten days. If there had not been a fuss, he would have been gone longer. He let his state down and not for the first time. As much as his state needed money, for posturing for political reasons, he wanted to refuse money. Even though unemployment was high and running out of money. He did this knowing that the court would step in, and the state would get the money anyway. This way it looked to his party that he was fiscally conservative. The hypocrite.
If his wife wants to take him back after all the humiliation, that is her business. But their relationship should not be used to decide his fitness for office. I wouldn't. But then I am not a family values Christian. Neither is he.
Wonder how much pressure Gov. Sanford can take?
-- He has to get through this weekend without being killed. Personally, I'd rather get a 1-way ticket to Argentina than go through what's waiting for him. "Do you still love; how much?" "Is she younger (prettier, sexier, smarter) than me?" The truth is "yes" but you have to SELL "no.' And I mean sell it !!! Advice: don't throw the "King David" crap at her. She knows you're no King David. (That exists only in your head.)
-- He's now a walking, talking life-time butt of a joke. Everyone who meets him will think "hiking the ol' Appalachian Trail."
-- And, he has to face the up-coming movie and its artistic interpretations. (E.g., "Hey, Guv, did that bedroom scene really happen that way?") Movie should be out before the elections of 2010.
The republican party and Sanford's wife seem to be more interested in getting this guy re-elected than the governor is in governing. Sanford doesn't seem that interested in doing his job.
The Governor is hiking with his wife..........
Or having a 3 way with the Argentinian?
His wife had better be getting an HIV test. since Mark has a problem with lying, you have to wonder how many women he has had sex with over the past few years. In fact, they both need to get HIV tests.
Disgraceful that a sitting govenor would throw his family over-board for some women he has "sparked with" and with one who is his "life partner".
What do we tell our children? A "holy family first" suddenly republiKKKon party has fallen off the bar stool.
That cross that Sanford used, the one he so self- rightously nailed himself to, is he draging that along on this little get-away..,? I wonder what the people of South Carolnia think of Jesus Sanford taking off like this, and not attending to state business...?

It is good that he is trying to resuscitate his marriage with faith and hard work. He married a good Christian woman, had 4 fine boys, then he made this terrible error in judgement to rush down there to be with a very pretty Argentinian spitfire. There are a lot of beautiful women in the world which is a tribute to God Himself but it seems Governor Sanford realizes that he made a vow under Our Lord to honor and cherish his wife. I hope they can restore the love that existed. Prayer and making their home and marital bed a place of true love is the way to start. He must also ask God for the strength to defy temptation and sin, and ask Jesus to return his beautiful wife's faith to him. Many men would be very happy to have such a pretty, Christian aristocratic wife, but then many men are always looking in other gardens when the one right before them already has the most beautiful flower.
