A list of at least seven related conversations involving Cheney appears in a new court filing approved by Obama appointees at the Justice Department. In the filing, the officials argue that the substance of what Cheney told special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald in 2004 must remain secret.
No such agreement was reached between Fitzgerald and Cheney at the time of their chat, according to a 2008 Fitzgerald letter to lawmakers. But the Bush administration rejected requests by Congress and a nonprofit group for access to two FBI accounts of the conversation, saying the material was exempt from disclosure under subpoena or the Freedom of Information Act.
The Obama administration has since agreed that the material should not be disclosed. A Justice Department lawyer at one point last month argued that vice presidents and other White House officials will decline to be interviewed in the future if they know their remarks might "get on 'The Daily Show' " or be used as fodder for political enemies.

This information about Cheney's discussions SHOULD have been the center of Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation. His mandate, as I recall, was to find out who was responsible for the "outing".
Even as he announced his conclusion - that Libby had lied and obstructed the investigation and would be prosecuted - I wondered (as did many) why he had pulled up short of Cheney's involvement. He was content to infer that Cheney had "a cloud" over him and . . . that was it!! WTF?!?! So much for integrity and justice in this country.
That Obama and his hacks at Justice are continuing this sickening charade is truly depressing. Some of the information they are withholding was hidden from Fitzgerald's investigation and I think a legal argument could be made that this information should be released as part of that investigation. Oh, that investigation is closed, you say? Why couldn't the Obama Justice Department make a case for the reinstatement of that investigation based on new information?
Time to get organized and hold the Obama people's feet to the fire!!
And, grindermonkey, the case that was dismissed was a civil case (as opposed to a criminal investigation) brought by Wilson and Plame against those responsible for this miscarriage of justice in an effort to extract penalties (i.e. damages) from them. That case was completely separate from Fitzgerald's investigation which SHOULD have probed far enough to get to the bottom of this mess and which should never have been closed without the full disclosure of these transcripts.

I see what I consider to be a disturbing trend and that is referring to the POTUS as though he is king or a ruler to be obeyed and bowed down to. Our form of govt is NOT a monarchy and people need to resist this notion. The president is an "elected" official only; elected by the people to manage the business of the people on behalf of the people. It is a job--an important one--but a job nonetheless (and a temporary one at that--at least for the time being). We must resist at all costs the consolidation of power that we have been witnessing that is turning the executive branch into the sole seat of power in our country--a throne upon which sits a king.
We have three branches of govt, equal in all respects, but two of these branches of govt are not doing their jobs as defined in the U.S. Constitution and instead are abdicating their authority. The bush gang and others began the process of turning the presidency into a rulership, and sadly it seems that Obama and our current congress are attempting to finish the job.
